When I got to the Bluehost homepage I wondered if I’d remember my password. It’s been awhile! A Global Pandemic and the current “Stay Home” initiative seems like a good time to restart this blog.

I’m constantly scrolling through social media (both because it’s my job and because I’m hoping to interact with friends I can’t physically see). I can do my job from home, so I’ve been here, a lot… And for awhile now I’ve been itching to get back to some creative writing. I write for a living now – a dream – but have not been doing some of the kind of writing I love most: using it to work through thoughts and ideas, letting my mind wander and reminisce on distant places, and ponder the idea that most of us really don’t know what the heck we’re doing in life.

I texted Madie some time back and said, “Hey, want to restart the blog? I’m still hyper-aware of the fact I’m just winging it and I think other people are too.”

So here we are.

Pretty sure my last post was about feeling on cloud nine. Jackson and I got engaged in Ireland last fall and are currently planning a wedding. It’s not really stressful, just exciting. I found out I got into THE Boston Marathon, which is a big deal for runners. And we’ve been working on our dream home.

We moved into our new home a few days prior to me typing this, but in light of the COVID-19 sweep across the globe, Boston is postponed and we decided to delay the wedding. I’m very grateful my job is still intact. I’m also thankful I’m able to work from home – a beautiful new home. But I also sometimes feel sad/guilty because many have lost their jobs. And just a couple weeks ago, a tornado ripped through the community we live in. Many lost their homes entirely.

So here I am, constantly in-between. Happy and sad and lots of emotions in-between.

Engaged couple in Jonesboro Arkansas
Jackson and I after working on the place that will soon transform into our wedding venue – plus be the location of something very exciting, details to come!

I read a terrific article yesterday that has me all the more inspired to get back to writing, and I hope more connecting, too, with people who feel a little lost/scared/frustrated/confused. This article reminds me, despite the terrible cause of our current circumstances, there are many silver linings in slowing down and altering the way we do life.

Go read it, after this, but my own take aways are: may we all slow down, may we all choose to hold closer the things that matter and release altogether the things that don’t, and may we resist the urge to (as big businesses and the government will try to encourage and insist that we need to) ‘return to normal’. We can define our new normal. We’ve proven that, as a collective group, we care deeply about one another. We can choose to invest our time, our money and our resources in the things that matter most to us. We can do this in great big gestures, quite small efforts, and everything in-between.

So, we’re back! Madie and me as a duo, working on this from different states and with different perspectives.

We’re going to post every two weeks on the same topics as before: travel/adventure, life, and work. But hopefully with a bit more structure. We still want this to be a community of people who acknowledge we’re just winging it. You are welcome here: as you are, with many questions and uncertainties, and with differing opinions. We hope to release our own thoughts here that may or may not echo your own. We also hope to start conversations that make us all feel a little more connected to people who feel like we all do sometimes: in-between.

If you’re here for the travel stuff, it will be shared every six weeks. If you’re here for the general life musings and relatable content, also every six weeks. And if you’re all about the whole writing/working (especially since many of us are doing it from home and wrestling with the good and bad of it) well, you got it, every six weeks. If you’re here for it all and everything in-between, we’ll see you here every two weeks.

If you’ve just found us and you’d like to know more about ‘In-between’ as whole, learn more here.

Tell us what you’re most interested in, what you’d like to talk about, or maybe just how you’re holding up during quarantine below!

And remember, in this time of uncertainty when pretty much no one knows how this is going to play out: it’s okay to be in-between.

  1. Happy Easter! I read the article you posted. It was very insightful! I’ve always try to learn from younger and older people. During this time I have really been interested in what the “more mature”, group has to say about this time. It is good to know that some of the younger generation is going to learn and apply what they have learned to their “new normal”. But, the few older people I have talked to have such a peace about this time. Two other groups of people would be interesting to talk to would be, families that homeschool and families that “live of the land”. I will be keeping up with your blog. This is times we will never forget and hopefully learn from. I thought I would also mention religious groups. They have interesting insight on this time of our lives. I admire your enthusiasm and can’t wait to read your thoughts!

    1. That would be super interesting to talk to people with different lifestyles and how it’s affecting them during this time! That sounds like a great article, or series of articles.
